Mascara 101 // How to + Tips

6:14 AM

Mascara is one of the easiest ways to open up your eyes without eyeshadow or liner, and draws attention to your eyes either in a good or bad way! When applied properly, mascara will bring depth to your eyes and enhance your makeup look. If applied wrongly, you will end up with spidery long, clumpy lashes and raccoon eyes which draws the wrong kind of attention.
Here are a few simple steps to help you in applying mascara and what you need to look out for.

What you need:
-Eyelash Curler & Mascara !

Let's Start!
1. ALWAYS curl your lashes.
Starting from your upper lash, hold the curler for 3-5 seconds at the roots. Then in an upward motion, lightly lift your hand up to curl the rest of your lash from the middle till the end, to give your lashes a nice curl. (It's like walking your curler upwards on your lash)
Curling your lashes will open up your eyes. As for some of us who do not have naturally curled lashes, this step is an absolute Must!

2. Twist out your mascara wand.
If you are taking more mascara for 2nd or 3rd coating, Remember to twist out the wand instead of pumping it. Pumping in and out will cause your mascara to dry faster.

3. Wipe of any excess mascara
You can gently swipe the excess on your mascara tube or on a piece of tissue paper.
Wiping any excess can avoid any clumps while you apply.

4. Apply your mascara!
Starting from the roots, swipe the mascara upwards to the end to coat your upper lashes.
As you coat your lashes, wiggle the wand from left to right Only at the roots then pull straight up from the middle to the end of your lash. This will avoid any clumps to form on your lash, allowing even application.

Finish by carefully applying your bottom lash!

Tips:
- Apply mascara after you've applied eyeshadow and eyeliner.
- More than one coating? Yes! Just don't overcoat your lashes or else it will have that spidery effect which we all want to avoid! Less is more.
- You can coat your lashes with different types mascaras instead of just using one mascara for a better result. Go ahead and experiment on the different types of mascara!
- Use water based makeup remover or foundation if there are any smudges. Take a cotton bud and lightly swipe on the smudge. I prefer to remove it while the smudge is still wet as it is easier to remove before it dries up!
-Avoid smudging? Place a card on your eyelid and apply your mascara against the card, this will prevent any mascara from staining your eye makeup.
- Avoid using waterproof mascara everyday as it can be drying to your lashes. Waterproof mascaras are harder to remove, causing your skin to sag and you might lose some lashes as you tug on your lashes to wipe off the mascara.

I hope this posts helps all of you out there who are struggling with mascara application.
Remember, practice makes perfect!
