Chocolate Cake // Rice Cooker Meal
10:27 PMWhipping up a sweet treat can be a piece of cake now even by using a rice cooker only! (pun intended)
Today, I'm gonna show you guys how to use a few basic ingredients to bake a decent chocolate cake that's even good enough for a friend's birthday treat.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 45 minutes
Ingredients ( serves 8 pax)
Cake Mix of Your choice
2 eggs
1 packet of milk
5 tbsp of margarine or oil
M&M (optional)
Steps:
1. Read through the instructions and prepare the ingredients needed as stated at the back of the cake mix box.
Instructions |
The cake mix I bought includes batter mix and icing mix. |
2. Melt the margarine through bain marie ( as explained in the tips below) and mix in with the eggs and the milk.
3. Once the wet ingredients are mixed thoroughly, pour in the batter mix and whip until a glossy finish.
4. Grease the rice cooker pan with generous amount of margarine or oil to avoid the batter sticking onto the pan.
5. Pour the batter into the rice cooker pan and cooked it for 45 minutes. Pressed down/switched to cooking mode every 15 minutes.
6. Meanwhile, prepare the icing mix according to the instructions and mix till glossy. You can use bain marie here to quicken the process.
7. After 45 minutes, poke the center of the cake with a fork.If the fork comes out clean, the cake is cooked.
8. Rest the cake on a cake board or a plate.
9. Pour the icing mix onto the cake and let it drizzle to the sides. Add on any decorative of your choice and you are done!
Some vanilla ice cream will taste good with this warm chocolate taste. |
Total Cost : RM12.00 ( RM6 per pax)
Cake Mix RM5.00
2 eggs RM0.80
Milk RM1.90
Margarine RM2.00
M&M RM2.30
Tips:
1. I choose to buy the cake mix that includes icing as it is easier and time -saving if you need to decorate your cake.
2. I would recommend to use cake mix instead of individual ingredients as it is a little tedious to store the leftovers, especially with the sugar where the ants may come and attack.
3. Bain marie is a fancy term for water bath where you put hot water at the bottom container and put a small bowl/container over it. It gives a uniform heat for melting or cooking the ingredients. Also, melted margarine makes the batter easier to mix.
4. It is better to put a cloth over the lid of the rice cooker to avoid the steam from escaping.
5. I added two extra tablespoon of milk into the icing mix as I like my icing a little runny.
6. The chocolate icing will set once let cool for 15 minutes.
7. I would add in more milk into the batter next time for a moister cake.
8. I bought my cake mix when it is on sale but usual price for cake mix will be around RM7- RM15.
9. To avoid my fingers for getting too greasy, I oil the rice cooker pan by using kitchen towel that's grease with margarine.
I hope you have fun making this!
